Since 1983, the Respect for Law program has been a cornerstone initiative of the Lakeshore Optimist Club of Grosse Pointe. This long-running effort celebrates and strengthens the vital connection between our community and local law enforcement, promoting understanding, appreciation, and mutual respect—especially among youth.
The Respect for Law program is designed to:
Honor and recognize the dedicated service of local law enforcement officers
Encourage youth to view police officers as allies and protectors in the community
Promote civic responsibility and respect for the rule of law
Build bridges of trust between citizens and those who serve and protect
Each year, the Lakeshore Optimist Club hosts events to spotlight outstanding officers and departments, engage local schools in educational outreach, and foster meaningful conversations between police and young people.
The impact of Respect for Law is deeply felt throughout Grosse Pointe and the surrounding areas. It’s not just about one event—it’s about creating a lasting culture of respect, appreciation, and partnership.
The Lakeshore Optimist Club is proud to continue this important tradition. Through Respect for Law, we are not only honoring those who protect us but also inspiring the next generation to be thoughtful, engaged citizens.
